Questionable Teachings of Islam: One Billion People Deceived

Just as with other religions, Islam uses the approach that God has subjected women to a lesser status than men and therefore they are to remain in their "rightful place" while the man is their protector. On the contrary, many Muslim women live in fear of their husbands who become a physical and psychological abuser rather than their protector. Thus, women have no say in the matter and are to accept their place as ordained by "Allah." According to Islamic theology, the husband can beat his wife for upsetting him in any manner:

"Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property. ... As for those from whom you fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart and scourge them; then if they obey you, seek not a way against them.." (Qur'an:004.034)

There is an exhaustive amount of text within the theology of Islam that degrades the status of women and hinders the very essence of their being. Even the most obedient woman in the Muslim faith remains subject to the pronouncements on females by the Islamic prophet, Muhammad; such as being cursed for refusing to have intimate relations with her husband, for wearing a wig and for wearing gold jewelry. Here are only a few examples:

"The Prophet said, 'If a man invites his wife to sleep with him and she refuses to come to him, then the angels send their curses on her ['til] the morning."' (Sahih Bukhari: Vol. 7, Book 62, No. 121)

"...Allah sends his curses upon such ladies who lengthen their hair artificially." (Sahih Bukhari: Vol 7, Book 62, No. 133)

"...I assure you that any woman of you who adorns herself with gold which she displays will be punished for it." (Abu-Dawud, Book 34, No. 4225)

"Any woman who wears a gold necklace will have a similar one of fire put on her neck on the Day of Resurrection... (Abu-Dawud, Book 34, No. 4226)
