Islam believes
God is One, yet, teaches a "plurality" in the being of Allah:
"We
created the heavens and the earth..." (Quran: 050.038)
"With
power and skill did We construct the firmament: for it is We who created
the vastness of space." (Qur'an: 051:047)
Regarding the
creation of Adam and of Satan:
Islam teaches that when Adam was
created, Allah (plural) commanded the angels to bow down to Adam:
"It
is We who created you and gave you shape; then we bade the angels
prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate..." (Qur'an 007.011)
In
Islamic theology, One angel (Iblis) refused to bow to Adam and came
to be known as Shaytan (Satan)
"And behold, We said to the angels:
'Bow down to Adam' and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and
was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith."' (Qur'an: 002.034)
The
Qur'an indicates that Adam and Eve were created in heaven and were
tempted in heaven by Iblis (Satan). After being tempted, Allah (plural)
cast Adam and Eve (and others) out of heaven and down to dwell upon
the earth:
"Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden) and
get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We
said: 'Get ye down, all (ye people), with enmity between yourselves.
On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood
- for a time"' (Qur'an: 002.036)
Analysis # 3
Judaism and
Christianity teach that Adam was created on earth. Adam and Eve were
not expelled from heaven but from an earthly paradise (Garden
of Eden). Angels were never instructed to bow down to Adam.
